Thomas Tuchel Expresses Disappointment Over Wembley Crowd Support Following Emphatic Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel voiced his disappointment that the England team did not get stronger backing from the Wembley spectators during their impressive triumph over Wales on Thursday evening.
Tuchel was satisfied to see his side continue their strong performance, with finishes from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the initial stages settling the match. However, he was displeased with the energy at the national stadium.
“With limited training days to get ready against a drilled team and we did very well,” the coach stated. “It could have been 5-0 up at half-time. We missed the fourth and fifth goals. It was quiet. There was no any energy from the stands. We did everything to win.”
“How much more can you give in the first quarter? We didn’t let them get away. When you only hear just Wales fans for half an hour, it’s sad because the team deserved greater backing today.”
“I support my words. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a derby. I hoped for a greater support in phases where it becomes tough.”
“In the second half, to cheer us on, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It could have helped us to recharge, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Performance
Away from risking a dispute among fans, Tuchel also caused a stir by excluding Jude Bellingham and Foden from his squad. Yet the decision was validated by Rogers impressing again in the No 10 position and getting his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” Tuchel noted. “He is a No 10 and he is fighting for his place.”
Bellamy Hopes for Improvement from Defeat
Craig Bellamy expressed hope that his team, who face a strong Belgian side in a key qualifying match on next week, learn from their disappointing first-half display.
“This is why I wanted this match,” the manager stated. “I need to see our standing. What are our ambitions? Who do we want to be? This performance fills me with drive.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Watkins was substituted at the break after clattering into a post and will be a doubt when the national team play Latvia in Riga in a World Cup qualifying match on next week.
