Numerous Join Pro-Palestine Protests as Coordinators Vow to Keep Protesting
A multitude gathered across Australia at pro-Palestinian protests, with organizers pledging to keep demonstrating after a truce agreement facilitated by the American leader in Gaza seemed to be taking effect.
Sydney March Attracts Many Participants
In Sydney, the activist collective announced a crowd of 30,000 had demonstrated from the central park to another city park in the downtown area after a planned rally to the iconic venue was restricted by the legal authorities in recent days.
Law enforcement estimated a crowd of 8,000 attended the Sydney protest, with a representative stating there had been "minimal disturbances".
Countrywide Protests Commemorate Date
Demonstrations were also conducted in southern city, eastern city and west coast metropolis on the weekend to commemorate 24 months of conflict after armed incidents on 7 October 2023 caused significant casualties in the neighboring country.
"Concerning the protest efforts, we'll certainly maintain to protest for a free Palestine... for self-determination in Gaza, for aid to be allowed in and for Palestinians to be able to rebuild Gaza," commented a coordinator.
Varied Responses to Truce Arrangement
Many protesters expressed hope that the truce might bring permanent peace. Others were sceptical of Trump's involvement and urged supporters to continue urging the Australian government to sanction Israel and end the trade in military goods.
A participant, a Australian of Palestinian descent living in Sydney, expressed he wished the agreement would allow him to assist his senior relative, who is currently in the region without access to medical care, to Australia, and to find and bury his brother, sister-in-law and their four children, who have been unaccounted for since that year.
Jewish Community Conducts Service
Separately, numerous people attended a community remembrance on the evening in eastern Sydney to mark the second anniversary of 7 October. Geoffrey Majzner, the family member of someone affected, an national who was deceased in the incident, was planned to address.

One activist who made the first proposal to protest at the iconic venue maintained that the participants could have peacefully gone to the iconic waterfront location. The senior police representative had earlier informed the legal authority that the proposal seemed problematic.
The activist said on Sunday: "On each occasion the police attempt to oppose our rallies or take us to the supreme court, it increases community attention... to the importance of gathering and stand up against it."
