NFL Recap: Broncos Edge Struggling Jets in Low-Scoring Affair
In a low-scoring contest this weekend, the Denver Broncos managed to secure a close victory over the struggling New York Jets. Signal-caller Bo Nix connected on a first-quarter touchdown pass and specialist Wil Lutz kicked the late decisive three-pointer to secure the hard-fought win.
Dominant Performance Seals Game
Despite recording nine sacks versus Jets QB Justin Fields, the Broncos found themselves trailing 11-10 after giving up a safety in the second half. Interestingly, the Jets could only produce just 82 offensive yards throughout the contest.
The Denver quarterback, who went 19 of 30 attempts for 174 yards, led a critical 12-play, 65-yard drive that culminated in Lutz's 27-yard kick with just over five minutes remaining.
Historic Difficulties for Jets Offense
In spite of their horrendous performance, the Jets maintained the ball with a opportunity to drive for a possible victory. But Fields was tackled on fourth-and-eight from the Denver 44 when head coach Aaron Glenn chose to go for it instead of sending out kicker Nick Folk for a long field-goal attempt.
Fields struggled throughout, completing just 9 of 17 passes for 45 yards. New York ended up with negative ten net yards passing, the lowest in any contest since 1998.
"The aerial attack was non-existent," Glenn commented following the contest.
