Hodgkinson recorded her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds last year in the British capital.

Keely Hodgkinson finished her two-lap season with a win at the all-female Athlos meet in New York on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the World Championships last month, excelled in an impressive win in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season impacted by a hamstring injury.

Compatriot and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell finished second once more in 1:58.33, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to compete and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson.

"The atmosphere out there is crazy so it was really, really fun."

The female-exclusive meet filled the stadium in its second edition, introducing a festive vibe to traditional track, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting standard medals.

The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to present the victors with their crowns.

Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The event also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith Kipyegon won the mile, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
