Greater Manchester Jewish House of Worship Incident Victims Named

Melvin Cravitz, sixty-six, resided in Crumpsall - the area where the Jewish worship center is located, according to authorities.

Two individuals killed in an attack on a synagogue in Manchester have been named by law enforcement as Adrian Daulby, 53, and 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz.

Three additional individuals continue receiving medical care with serious injuries after the attacker drove a vehicle into people before using a bladed weapon on the morning of the incident.

The violent incident, which police have said was a act of terrorism, took place during Judaism's holiest day, the holiest day in the Jewish religious calendar.

The perpetrator, who was shot dead at the scene, was a thirty-five-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent who was not on record to counter-terrorism authorities, according to official statements.

Official Statements

"Our hearts are broken," the nation's top rabbinical authority commented.

In an interview with a major broadcast, he remarked: "The tragic incident was a terrible shock to us, something which actually we were fearing might happen because of the preceding circumstances."

The attack was not only "a profoundly troubling moment" for Jewish citizens nationwide "but for everyone in our country," he continued.

Government Response

"Our obligation is to guarantee our Jewish citizens, our people can go about their lives with security and assurance," a cabinet minister stated.

"I do not want Jewish people in our country to feel compelled to live a limited religious practice, that they cannot pursue their activities and follow their beliefs and visit their worship places in freedom," she stated.

The assailant was not identified to security services, she told news organizations, and it was "not yet possible" to say if there was a organized group behind the attack.

Police Inquiry

The criminal probe was "continuing at pace" and there was an increased police presence at synagogues across the UK.

"The government does provide safety resources," the official stated, adding: "We must evaluate what more we can do to address rising antisemitism."

Greater Manchester police announced they were supporting the families of the two deceased individuals.

"Our heartfelt condolences are with Mr Daulby and Mr Cravitz's loved ones at this incredibly difficult period," a senior police officer expressed.

He indicated that designated family representatives were in contact with them and would continue to support them through the coronial process.

"Although procedures exist which must be followed, we pledge to remain sensitive of cultural preferences and needs and to ensuring that the deceased and their loved ones' wishes are honored," he said, mentioning that the two men were from Crumpsall.

Autopsies are scheduled on the following day, according to government statements.
