Former NFL Star Antonio Brown Enters Not Guilty Response in Attempted Murder Trial

One-time National Football League player Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to face an murder attempt charge connected with a shooting that took place in May, as his lawyer submitting a innocent response on his behalf.

Detention records in Essex County, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was released on Tuesday morning for his move to Florida. Brown, a highly popular figures in the NFL, had waived extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was detained after being arrested in Dubai.

Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an communication that he has earlier filed a documented innocent plea to the attempted murder allegation. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as early as Wednesday morning for a release hearing, Eiglarsh added.

According to his detention order, Brown is alleged of taking a handgun from a security guard after a public figure boxing event in May and firing two rounds at a man he had fought with before. The alleged target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to police that one shot scraped his throat.

Eiglarsh stated that Brown was only defending himself from Nantambu.

“The measures he was obliged to take were purely in self-defense against the claimed victim’s hostile behavior. Brown was targeted that time and responded within his lawful entitlement to protect himself,” Eiglarsh said.

Brown was not right away arrested because at first officers did not identify Nantambu as a target. It only later in May that Nantambu provided a detailed account about the event to officers and named Brown as the perpetrator, the affidavit says.

According to his social media posts, Brown had been living in the city of Dubai for multiple weeks. In a message after the incident, Brown claimed he was protecting himself because he was “jumped by numerous individuals who tried to rob my jewelry and cause physical injury to me.”

A category two murder attempt charge in the state of Florida imposes a maximum 15-year jail term and up to a $10,000 penalty in the instance of a finding.

Brown has dealt with several court challenges over the time. He previously had been charged of battery of a delivery employee, multiple family violence allegations, neglect to pay child support and additional incidents.

During a 2021 match with Tampa Bay against the New York Jets, Brown removed his shirt, shoulder pads and accessories and exited the arena, causing his dismissal by the franchise and practically ending his professional journey.

Brown, who had a dozen years in the league, was an top-tier receiver who spent most of his career with the Steelers. For his time, Brown had nine hundred twenty-eight grabs for more than 12,291 gains, the 28th highest of history. He was a multiple-time prestigious pick.
